Adware and spyware software programs create a ton of unwanted complications for computer users. These annoying programs are installed onto your PC and track your online activities without your consent. Many people do not even realize the program has been installed, only that they are having problems with the machine’s performance.
The most common side effect of an adware spyware software installation are annoying pop-ups. The pop-up advertisement windows are generally false ads claiming that your computer is infected. If a user clicks the ad it will normally install even more adware spyware software onto the computer.
The pop-up windows may also contain sexually explicit advertisements and may repeatedly pop up, one after another, making it difficult to even use the computer online. Some adware spyware programs will change the settings of an existent pop-up blocker to allow these programs, leaving the user helpless.
Toolbar installation is another problem created by adware spyware software. The program will generally disable any toolbars already in use, like Google or EarthLink, and install its own. The adware spyware toolbar typically only returns sponsored search results and can usually not be permanently disabled.
Another common problem seen after an adware spyware software installation is internet hijacking. The program will change the home page setting of your preferred internet browser. Each time the user gets online, the browser is automatically directed to another web site that generally installs even more adware spyware software onto the computer. The PC will become more and more susceptible to pop-ups and the hijacking spyware software may direct the user to gambling sites or other adult web sites.
Some of the more malicious types of adware spyware software can alter the computer’s settings, registry, and hard drive. Some programs will alter vital system files. The files can not simply be deleted or the computer may not operate properly. A number of spyware programs will disable anti-virus and firewall software and will sometimes lower the security settings of the internet browser as well.
The problems caused by adware spyware software can continue to increase, growing exponentially if no action is taken to remove the bad programs. There are several trusted programs available to remove the dangerous software and restore the computer to its original state, but they should be used as quickly as possible. Large amounts of adware spyware software will sometimes overload the removal software, making it useless. Computers with severe adware and spyware infections may have to undergo a complete wipe of the hard drive to recover. There are also a variety of programs available to prevent the installation of the most common adware spyware software.
